The bullet material of lead-free ammunition

Renouncment of lead as a bullet component makes it impossible to find residues of lead in venison or in the environment. This is the decisive reason why lead-free ammunition has been introduced for hunting weapons. Instead of lead other metals such as nickel, zinc or copper serve as components of the bullet's material. In comparison to leaded ammunition the alternative types of bullets have the following characteristics:

• Copper bullets are softer than leaded bullets
• Tombak or nickel plated jacketed bullets are comparable to leaded ammunition being a combination of softer and harder bullet cores.
• Brass and bronze bullets are harder than leaded bullets

By now initial doubts about the efficacy of such ammunition have given way to general approval. However, if you decide on using lead-free ammunition you should not use it alongside with leaded ammunition on the same weapon since some shotgun barrels are not adapted to firing different ammunition types in alteration.

Bullet impact of lead-free ammunition

Common hunting bullets either have a deformation or a splintering projectile. These two types of projectile have a different impact on the hit game.
