Hunting hats take on elementary tasks during the hunting exercise
Hunting without hunting hat is unthinkable
The head cover in hunting has infinitely many functions and tasks. The hat is part and parcel of hunting clothes, as if it was part of a uniform. The best-known hunting uniform hat is the Prince-Pless hat. The make, size, shape and color of the hunter´s headdress depends on the weather, the type of hunting, the legal requirements, and not least on the particular preferences of the wearer. In this day and age, there is a wide selection of different types and shapes of hats: the traditional hunting hat, the baseball cap shape, the wool hat or the classic English hunting cap, to name just a few.
The main tasks of hunting hats
Camouflage: When hunting, the hat chiefly fulfills a camouflage function. Bright hair as well as the fair skin of the face would otherwise be very noticeable and frighten the game. In principle, the color of the head cover should be adapted to the respective landscape and season.
Warmth: During the colder season the hat and all other head covers are designed to protect your sensitive head and keep it warm. There are different versions. Hats with real or artificial fur, with and without ear flaps. If you do not want to separate from your favorite hat in winter, you can also wear a light but warm woolen hat under your hat.
Safety: When hunting as a group, wearing a hunting hat with a signal-colored hat band is compulsory. A good solution are hat where the hat band or the entire upper part of the hat can be turned over into orange or other signal colors.
Weather protection: The traditional felt hat or loden hat offer good rain protection. Nevertheless, the more modern design with rainproof membrane should not be ignored. Even with a long-lasting continuous rain, the membrane technology reliably keeps you dry.
Sun protection: any hat, be it a man´s or a lady´s hat, protects the wearer during the hunt from too much sun and prevents from being blinded by backlight. For hunting in countries with very high sun power, there are also hats with additional neck protection.
Function before fashionable frills
When choosing your hunting hat, the function and also fit of the hat should take precedence over the fashionable aspect. The hunting hat must firmly fit the head, whether on the high seat, when stalking and above all when shooting, and must not slip or fall.
