Six-dentated bark beetles often appear in company with eight-dentated (spruce) bark beetles but prefer thin-bark areas (upper trunk area, branches and scars). Pheromone preparations attract bark beetles by means of species-specific attractants. These are well proven and easy to handle with the standard dispenser and provide excellent results. Detection: brown dust from drilling in old wood, discolouration of the crown starting at the tips. Usage: in combination with manufactured traps (WitaTrap slit trap, Wita impact) or with tree traps in the vicinity of the damage noticed and also near older stands. Trap distances: for monitoring: 50-100 m. With infestation: 15-30 m. Safety distance: 10-15 m from healthy spruces. Dates: from spring (14 - 16°C) before swarming time. First flight: April, second flight: July. Also one or two sibling breeds possible Effect: circa 6 - 8 weeks, then place a second dispenser in the traps.
